Partner Visas

Partner visas allow de facto partners and spouses of Australian citizens, permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens to come and live in Australia. There is an offshore Partner Visa program (subclass 309/100)  and an onshore Partner Visa program (subclass 820/801). There is also a Prospective Marriage Visa (subclass 300), allowing you to come to Australia to marry your prospective spouse.

Offshore Partner Visa Program (subclass 309/100)

  • ​This is a temporary visa - you can apply for the permanent Partner Visa (subclass 100) two years after your initial application

  • You can live, work and study in Australia while the Department processes your permanent Partner Visa application

  • You can travel to and from Australia as many times as you want

  • You can apply for access to Australia’s public health care scheme, Medicare

Onshore Partner Visa Program (subclass 820/801)

  • ​This is a temporary visa - you can apply for the permanent Partner Visa (subclass 801) two years after your initial application

  • You can live, work and study in Australia while the Department processes your permanent Partner Visa application

  • You can travel to and from Australia as many times as you want

  • You can apply for access to Australia’s public health care scheme, Medicare

Prospective Marriage Visa (subclass 300)

  • Come and stay in Australia for 9 to 15 months from your visa grant date

  • Work and study in Australia
